Panel Holder

Hot off the workbench.  I showed my husband the panel holder by artist Carol Marine.  This is what he came up with.  The bar slides up and down has a clamp for holding the panels ranging from 4" x 4" to 8" x 10".

Two Firsts Today!

Last night at the Guild of Charlotte Artists, we learned about the Munsell color system.  I used two colores to portray this apple, red purple and permanent green.  I added white and black to get the varying values.  Also my first painting using 6" x 6" Raymar panels.

"Red Delicious Apple"

Sometimes it takes as long to capture the painting in a photograph as it does to paint it.  I tried indoor and outdoor lighting today.  I found the last one taken outside with indirect light was the best shot.

This is my interpretation of the photo.  Much more colorful.

"Four Mile Creek Greenway"

Another cloud study from this photograph taken after I hopped off my bike on "Four Mile Creek" greenway.

In the Charlotte Observer today!

Charlotte Plein Air Painters met in Davidson for our first paint out of the year.  A Charlotte Observer photographer caught us enjoying the afternoon painting.  The photo appeared today in the Charlotte Observer, local section page 2.  Kathy Collins in the forground, Cinthia Griffin and me in the background.

Sunset

I took two photos of the this sunset painting.  One with was with indoor light and the other with natual light outside about 4:00 pm.  Which looks the best for publishing?  Comments appreciated.

Sunset looking at the Tennessee Mountains.

Finished first in series of cloud paintings.

Roses for Valentine's Day

It's wonderful to share a Friday night gallery crawl with other artist friends.  Henry Barnes was the highlight for me at Shain Gallery.  Two of my friends suggested trying Angela Nesbit style painting.  So here it is "Roses for Valentine".

Today's Inspiration

Art Biz CoachEmbrace a Space and Get Your Art Out There.  One never knows which venue will be where you sell your art.  I am trying to follow every lead and opportunity.  An artist friend told me about the Art Sale for "Big Saturday". I jumped right on it and received an invitation for April 16, 2011 in Charlotte.  This month I have paintings at Earth Fare Cafe ~ South Park and the South End Exchange on Camden Road.  Marketing is part of being an artist.

"Cottage and Sunflowers"
Posted by Picasa

Today at Earth Fare Cafe

This month is my turn hang my artwork at Earth Fare Cafe ~ South Park.  After changing all the wires to lengthen the paintings, all eight were finally hung.  If you live in Charlotte, you can see my painting there through the month of February.
Later in the afternoon lunch and critique artwork with friends.  Suggestions were to add a little color here and there, use lost and found edges, and a reminder of cool distances and warm the forgrounds.  Wonderful suggestions for paintings that were already beautiful.
