"Natural Bridges"

"Natural Bridges"
11" x 14"
$250
oil painting on canvas

I'm happy to say that Hurricane Florence turned into Tropical Storm Florence for Charlotte, North Carolina.  I left California on Tuesday where it was perfect weather everyday to come home to a threat of a Hurricane.  I pray for all the was hit by it on the beaches of the Carolinas.
So while visiting a good friend in Santa Cruz we got a chance to walk West Cliff Drive to the Natural Bridge State Park in the morning.  The first morning was beautiful fog which I really miss.  Where I grew up I could hear the fog horn across the San Francisco Bay.  The second time we walked, the fog lifted to a clear sunny morning.

Today I felt the pressure of both challenges.  I almost didn't do one today and was tired from walking about 20 miles since last Friday.  I look forward to tomorrow with new vigor for painting and finishing this second challenge.

The top painting was painted from a photo that I took at Huntington State Beach Park in South Carolina.  I was standing in a spot where I could see the ocean, sand dunes, and the marsh on a very hot day in August.
The one below was painted from a photo that I took in Germany.  It is the Moselle River with the vineyards growing on the sides of the hills.  This was a great driving trip but it is also great for bicycles riding along the river.

A path to the beach in Cape Cod.  The ocean is a deeper blue than it is here in the Carolinas.  Working on greens and shadows in this painting.  I never get tired of mixing greens because they can be so different.

Getting Ready for 30 painting in 30 days in September

I started painting 30 painting in 30 in 2013 with Leslie Saeta.  I listened to Blog Talk radio (AHA) with Leslie Saeta and Dottie Leatherwood yesterday.  They talked about ideas for themes and how to get ready.  Dottie mentioned my idea about painting your fears.  That will be my theme for 2016 ~ facing your painting fears.  I have ordered my panels of various sizes and now will start gathering my reference photos.
Below are collages and themes from 2014 (doors) and 2015(beaches, marshes, water, and a couple of odd ones).

Day 30 "Evening Waves"

Day 30 ~ 30 paintings in 30 days
"Evening Waves"
oil on canvas panel
8" x 10"
$95
Sold

I put extra love into this painting because it is the last painting in the series of 30 paintings.  I did this 30 day challenge with hundreds of other artists, coordinated by Leslie Saeta of California.  This has been a journey of discovery.  I had a ocean, beach, marsh theme which I occasionally wavered.  I learned so much painting the similar scenes.  I kept the paintings small so I wouldn't be  afraid to experiment.  I'll take a day or two off and then start with a larger painting, at least 18 x 24.

"Beach Sunset"

Thank you Mint Hill Arts for asking me to do a demo on June 25.  It was a very interactive audience and lots of fun.  This is the end result of the demo.  I'm still undecided whether it is finished or not.  What do you think?
