River through the Vineyards

Just a little over two weeks ago my husband and I were driving through the wine region of Germany.  This painting is of the Moselle River with the vineyards planted on the sides of steep hills.  This and the Rhine are perfect to take a river cruise or a bicycle ride beside the rivers.  We discovered many beautiful  villages and castles.  It waters was deep blue and clean.

I enjoyed painting and experimenting with a cloudy day and sand dunes so much  that I wanted to paint another one today.  I am discovering different blues to use in the sky to make the clouds pop.  My challenge in painting is also with contrast and depth.

This is a painting from the first day of my cruise leaving Boston Harbor.  What a glorious evening, standing in our balcony seeing Boston fade into the distance and drinking a glass of wine with my best friends.
