Golden Marsh

"Golden Marsh"
18" x 36"
oil on gallery wrapped canvas
$725

I have been working on this painting for a month.  I painted the first layer quickly and the next few layers, I took my time with.  I used a palette knife for most of it.  I wanted to get the blue of the water right and the golden grasses the right color to capture a marsh on a bright, sunny, and windy February.

This painting will be for sale along with many others of my paintings at Charlotte Country Day School, April 14-16.  The times are 8 am to 4 pm Thursday and Friday.  Big Saturday will be 10 am to 4 pm.

Day 29 "Boats on a Bank"

30 Paintings in 30 Days
Day 29
"Boats on a Bank"
8" x 10"
oil on canvas panel
$95

I painted another painting from this image.  I wanted this one to be smaller and have the bank be less steep.  I never paint the same way twice so it was fun to see how this one would turn out.  Another day in my life from the New England/Canada cruise.  This was in Nova Scotia near Halifax.

Day 10 "Doorway to Home"

30 paintings in 30 days
Day 10
"Doorway to Home"
10" x 8"
oil on canvas panel

This was a stop along the way to the Bay of Fundy as we were looking for a little color in the trees.  This house had some beautiful ivy growing on the side of the front door.  Next door was a beautiful tree and some white farm buildings.
Tomorrow I will post the tree next door.

"Bay Marsh"

"Bay Marsh"
30" x 30"
Oil on gallery wrapped canvas
palette knife
$650

I went on a two day tour of Cape Cod.  The blues of the sky and water were so brilliant.  The water is a very deep blue and the sky very clear.  I put a little red in the background trees to show that some of the trees were starting to turn.

Day 9 "Natural Bridge"

30 paintings in 30 days
Day 9
8" x 10"
oil on canvas panel
Palette knife
$95
The rock formations in California are very challenging.  Each part of a five mile walk along West Cliff Drive is uniquely different.  I love the thirty day challenge so I can keep practicing the colors of the Pacific Ocean and the sandstone formations of the cliffs and natural bridges.

Day 4 "West Cliff"

30 Painting in 30 Days
Day 4
"West Cliff"
oil on canvas panel
8" x 10"
$95

California series for day 4.  I went to my local art store today, Binders and discuss what color blue is the Pacific Ocean by Santa Cruz.  We discussed French Ultra Marine blue.  I finally picked Indigo Blue and mixed it with Payne's Grey.  Let me know if any West Coast oil painters have any good color suggestions.  With my artists license I took out the fence along the highway by the ocean.  Maybe it looked like this when it was still natural so many years ago.

Day 1

Coastal Live Oak

I am painting along with Leslie Saeta's 30 day challenge.  I have done this challenge in January for three years.  It is exciting to once again be doing this daily challenge.  This month I'm going to paint 30 paintings of my trip to California last month.  Some will be of West Cliff such as this one and succulents in my friend's garden, Los Gatos and who knows what else.  Check each day to see what I paint.

The river-walk is a 2 1/2 miles walk along the Catawba Rive in Rock Hill, South Carolina.  Our painting group was small yesterday.  We started out early to avoid getting the heat of the day.  People stopped by to see what we were painting and ask questions about our painting group.  Next week we will be back in Charlotte for our Tuesday paint out.

The title refers to the different blues of the sky and ocean.  Being at the beach is always happy and calming for me.  I looked at six difference beach photos to get this color scheme.  I have a canvas 36" x 48" waiting to be filled.  This my first impression of what the larger abstract will be like.

This photo reference has lots of color in the sky and reflections in the ebbing water on the beach.  For me, this is the best time of day to walk on the beach.

Day 15 ~ 30 paintings in 30 Days
"Parade of Clouds"
8" x 10"

This was a Thanksgiving walk near the beach as the clouds came rolling in.  The clouds seemed to be stair stepping back into space.  I was fascinated by this November sky.
