"Nestled In"

"Nestled In"
24" x 24"
oil on gallery wrapped canvas
This will be for sale at Christ Church on Providence Road starting December 3rd.  Can be purchased at the Good Will Shop.

On a vacation in the Spring my husband and I drove from Boise, Idaho to Sisters, Oregon.  The landscape along the way was gorgeous.   I have never seen a barn with a blue roof before we drove by this one.  It was such a picturesque sight.  I name this oil painting "Nestled In" because the flat farm land was surrounded by beautiful mountains.

"McAlpine Meadow"

"McAlpine Meadow"
8" x 10"
oil on canvas
plein air
It was a beautiful spring day in Charlotte today.  I went to McAlpine Creek with my plein air friends to paint this morning.  Not much color but green today so all of us tried to do something different with the greens that we saw.  I added lots of other color to my greens.  This maybe purchase on Daily Paintworks, starting tomorrow.

Country Walk

"Country Walk"
30" x 30"
oil on gallery wrapped canvas
This inspiration for this painting came from a photo I took while walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain.  The views along the way were gorgeous.  We walked through countrysides, vineyards, villages centuries old. and thriving cities.

Day 25 "Purple Barn"

Day 25
30 paintings in 30 days with Leslie Saeta
I also did 31 out 31 days paintings with Strada Easel
Altogether this is Day 56.
I'm very excited to paint everyday.  A few days when I couldn't paint, I would do two the next day.  This purple barn is the last of my barn series.  I have five more days to paint.  These have all been small pieces. The more successful paintings, I will make into larger one.  Let me know what one of these small paintings that you would like to see larger.  I have two 30" by 30" canvases ready to go.

Day 22 "Hay's In"

Day 22
30 in 30
"Hay's In"
10" x 8"
oil on canvas panel
I painted this barn on Day 19.  I changed the colors by using just magenta, viridian green, and cad. yellow.  It has a softer feel and gives the barn a more aged look.

Day 19 & day 50 "Country Barn"

Day 19
"Country Barn"
8" x 10"
Oil on Canvas Panel

This should be a celebration day for me.  I have painted 50 paintings in 50 days.  This week I'm doing a barn series.  Today's photo and yesterday's were taken on country roads in North Carolina.  This one was bright red while yesterday's was very subdued.  I didn't stick with just three colors today and it was fun to have such a bright barn painting.

Day 10 "Sunrise"

Day 10 "Sunrise"
7" x 5"
oil on linen panel
I didn't have time to paint or post yesterday so I will do two today.  This image was taken early morning on a drive to the beach.  It was foggy in Charlotte which made the sunrise very exciting.

Day 4 "Sunny Morn"

Day 4
30 paintings in 30 days
plus last month 31 paintings in 31 days
Day 35
I am still enjoying working on triads.  Today's painting is an intense triad and tomorrow's will be a delicate triad.  You will see that they didn't turn out much different.  I have found that sometimes they are completely different and that is why I like using the same photo reference.

Summer Morning

"Summer Morning"
7" x 5"
oil on canvas

< Since I moved two months ago, I have been walking by this lake on my way to Starbucks or for a walk on the green-way several times a week.  It was nice to be painting in someone's backyard with paths leading down to this lake.  Beauty was everywhere.  There were stonewalls, arbors, brick walkways, wrought iron benches, and beautiful hydrangeas.

Boone Hall

The entrance to Boone Hall Plantation was everything I hoped it would be.  At the end of last month I met a California friend in Charleston and we toured many things including this Southern Plantation with this grand avenue of Live Oak Trees with Spanish Moss hanging gratefully from the tree limbs.

Day 26 "Symbols"

30 Paintings in 30 Days
Day 26
Symbols
7" x 5"
Oil on canvas panel

Various markers lead the way to Santiago de Compostela.  This ancient stone marker is filled with symbols.  On the left in blue is the scallop which is always found to mark the way to the church of St. James.  The cross is the symbol of St. James.  The "Stones of Sorrow" are placed on the marker.  Some bring them from home or like me, I would pick up one and carry to one of the special places that we stopped.

Day 25 "Fishing Village"

30 Painting in 30 Days
Day 25
"Fishing Village"
8" x 10"

This is a little fishing village in New Brunswick.  The challenge on this painting was the roof lines and color.  I wanted to make this more colorful than it was and I wanted to use lots of juicy paint on the one.

Day 18 "Reflections on a River"

30 Paintings in 30 Days
Day 18
Reflections on a River
Oil on linen panel
7" x 5"

Sometimes painting on a small canvas seems like it will be faster but actually it takes more time because the drawing and painting part of it is very small.  This photo has intrigued me for awhile.  I felt that almost would have made a good abstract.

Day 10
5" x 7"
$50

I took this photo while walking the grounds of the Biltmore Estate in Ashville.  The photo looked black and white because of the snow on the ground and the almost black stark trees of winter.  I challenged myself to use only two colors plus white. I used a mixed purple and cadmium dark yellow to capture the starkness of the day.

Day 8 "Broken Fence"

30 Paintings in 30 Days
Day 8
"Broken Fence"
8" x 10"
oil on canvas panel

I took this photo years ago in British Columbia.  I thought I might paint it someday but wasn't sure if I could paint it as beautiful as the photo.  This challenge for me was depth and color.  I love the yellow green foreground against the purple middle ground.

Reflections

"Reflections"
20" x 24"
Oil on canvas
$525
This painting was full of different colors of green.  You wonder how many greens can you mix.  It is an unlimited amount.  It is also a fun topic of discussion with my other artist friends.  This is another marsh painting which is one of my favorite subjects.  I love this one because of all the reflections in the water.
This painting will for sale at the McDowell Center for Matthews Alive from September 1st to September 30th.
